Organic Food Federation Accreditation

James Knight of Mayfair has an ongoing commitment to reduce the environmental impact made by its operations as much as possible.  We believe that in this endeavour we share a common goal with a wide cross-section of our customers. We achieve this aim in many different ways, including selective product purchasing from day boats, organic ranches, MSC-accredited and other recognised sustainable sources. To complement these buying decisions, James Knight of Mayfair became the first fish and shellfish wholesaler to have been accredited by the Organic Food Federation (OFF), and have been compliant with these requirements since October 2008. Why is accreditation important and what does it mean for our customers

Annual certification against organic standards is important for a number of reasons.

 

• Legally, suppliers of organic products must have been successfully audited against DEFRA-approved standards for the production of organic products before any such products can be offered for sale.
• Customers should ensure that their supplier of organic products is accredited prior to purchase.
• Organic certification provides a guarantee to customers that there is a clear supplier demarcation between organic and non-organic products during storage, production and delivery of all products. We also have to prove that the volume of organic products we purchase does not exceed the volume of that we sell by means of a consolidation test – giving your further peace of mind that when pay for organic products that is exactly what you are receiving.
• Organic certification obligates James Knight of Mayfair to receive written authorisation from the OFF prior to any new organic products being purchased, processed or launched (including packaging and labelling for the same), outside the scope of the original award. This is designed to ensure compliance to the standards regardless of audit date and may or may not include follow up visits by the OFF.  
• Organic certification allows James Knight of Mayfair to include the OFF logo on its organic products, a symbol recognised and trusted by both UK retailers and customers.
• It provides ongoing proof of our commitment to continuous technical improvement. (James Knight of Mayfair is also accredited to Bristish Retail Consortium (BRC) standards.
